Sports Administration: A Key to Excellence or a Stumbling Block to the Progress of Sports Institutions

There is no doubt that over the past years, the recurring consensus has been that the core problem of Egyptian sports is fundamentally an administrative one. This points directly to the lack of successful administrative leadership capable of charting a better future for Egyptian sports institutions. Throughout Egypt’s history, influential sports leaders have been few and far between. Many officials responsible for managing Egyptian sports institutions lack the proper qualification or capacity to elevate the future of these institutions and Egyptian sports as a whole. This necessitates urgent action to prepare and qualify individuals to take the helm of sports institutions in a professional manner, moving away from amateurism. Doing so can bring about a qualitative leap for sports institutions in terms of their governance and operational mechanisms, as advancing sports institutions primarily requires management characterized by a high degree of qualification and professional rigor to achieve desired results.

Qualified and Trained Human Resources

Sports institutions currently find themselves navigating numerous changes occurring at both local and global levels, driven by contemporary variables such as globalization, technological advancements in information technology, and organizational evolution. These shifts heavily impact the regulations and laws governing sports globally and, unquestionably, locally. Examples include the advent of professionalization—alongside the regulatory changes it introduced to professional sports—and the issuance of Egypt’s Sports Law No. 71 of 2017. This law requires structural changes in sports institutions and institutionalizes new concepts, such as joint-stock companies serving as investment vessels within the sports sector, in tandem with fast-paced IT developments.

To help sports institutions of all types and sizes overcome these challenges and successfully achieve their founding objectives, the human element stands as their true wealth. Humans are both the means and the end of any developmental effort, and the quality of this element is the primary determinant of progress and growth. As a vital factor of production in any society—often termed “human capital”—its strength and significance in the production process are undeniable. This requires various sports institutions to adopt new roles within their human resource management functions to keep pace with surrounding changes across all fronts, ensuring that the personnel operating within these organizations are not isolated from these shifts or left behind by progress and technology.

The human element is the true wealth of any nation, serving as the primary and critical resource for an organization’s ability to achieve competitive advantages. Building upon this understanding of the importance of human resources, the pivotal role they play in elevating sports institutions, and the contemporary variables shaping the modern sports landscape—born from a global system that has transformed everything—it has become imperative for these institutions to develop their human resources. They must equip their members with the capabilities and skills needed to elevate their organizations and act as building blocks for the renaissance of Arab sports institutions across all types and sizes.

Developing Future Leaders

A fundamental component of professionalizing sports human resources is ensuring strong leadership within the sports sector. This mandates working to prepare a second and third tier of qualified leaders and individuals capable of managing Egyptian sports, trained according to the latest systems of human resource development and sports management. This will enable them to take the lead in the future and drive Egyptian sports toward global standards, all achieved by qualifying and preparing them in alignment with the latest international sports management systems.
