I urge Your Excellency, Mr. President, to intervene to protect Egyptian sports from a cancer that is eating away at the body and bones of Egyptian sports as a whole, not just football. Just as you confronted the dangers of terrorism and declared that Egyptian sports are a matter of national security, I hope Your Excellency will intervene to rescue Egyptian sports. I never wished to call upon the President of the Republic to resolve a sports crisis, but the matter has reached its peak.

In recent years, we have been afflicted by a man who assumed the position of president of the prestigious Zamalek Sporting Club, one of the pillars of Egyptian sports. This man proceeded to spread corruption—using insults, obscene language, and defamation against everyone and at all levels, hiding behind a legal cloak that renders him immune to punishment. In the recent past, his confrontations were with the Olympic Committee, the African and Egyptian Football Federations, Al Ahly Club and its symbols, and before them, numerous officials and public figures. As a member of the Egyptian Parliament, he stood before everyone because he possesses immunity, making it impossible for anyone to take disciplinary action against him. This man was a direct cause of the crises that have plagued Egyptian sports in recent years; he worked to inflame spirits and provoke feelings of anger and hatred that incite violence and riots, while satellite TV channels opened their doors for him to inject his venom into the veins of Egyptian sports. The situation reached its climax during the events of the Egyptian Super Cup match in the UAE and the unfortunate incidents that followed.

Today, the farcical scene culminates in a staged act by which he attempts to win another judicial battle on the sports fields, through his announcement that he would not participate in the summit match against Al Ahly, only to send the youth team in the final minutes while staging a breakdown of the team’s bus on the road to file a police report documenting the incident. I believe we are living in a long, endless nightmare. The question here is: Who is protecting this madman? Where is the state regarding him? And how long will this farcical series continue?

We have said it many times: He who is safe from punishment misbehaves. Unfortunately, what is coming is worse, with no supervisor and no accountant. Fear God regarding Egypt, its youth, and its reputation. Is there anyone to answer us?!
