Some milestones give you a job… others give you a mission.

Joining the Emirates Scout Association was not simply a move to a new workplace. It was my entry into a world where I learned that great dreams do not come true by chance. They become reality when they are guided by a clear vision, driven by a committed team, and sustained by unwavering determination.

Before I begin, I should mention that this phase of my journey is too rich in experiences, challenges, and achievements to fit into a single story. For that reason, this marks the beginning of a series of reflections on my years with the Emirates Scout Association—a chapter that fundamentally reshaped my professional life.

When I joined the Association, I had no idea that I was stepping into the most transformative stage of my career. It was far more than a new organization to work for; it was a gateway to a constantly evolving world where youth development, institutional excellence, leadership, international partnerships, and community impact came together.

By the grace of God, and with the support of the Board of Directors, the Secretary General, the confidence of the leadership, and the privilege of working alongside a team that believed in success as deeply as I did, every challenge became the beginning of a new achievement.

It was there that I realized:

Great institutions are never built by coincidence… they are built by vision.

The Beginning: Building the Institution Before Building Success

The beginning was anything but easy.

Our first challenge was to complete the institutional foundation of a modern organization built upon an integrated framework of governance, policies, regulations, and procedures that aligned with both the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) standards and the strategic vision of the United Arab Emirates.

Our objective was never limited to drafting policies and documents.

Our real goal was to build an institutional culture—one that viewed quality not as a temporary initiative, but as a permanent way of working.

This led us to develop a comprehensive five-year strategic plan, strengthen governance, institutionalize organizational practices, and establish policies, regulations, and systems that operated under one vision, one mission, and one shared ambition.

During this journey, I learned one of the most valuable lessons of my career:

A strategy succeeds not because it is well written, but because people genuinely believe in it.

Trust… Our First Achievement

Before building projects, we had to build trust. Trust within our team. Trust between the Association and its Scout Commissioners. Trust with government entities and private-sector partners. Trust with our regional and international stakeholders.

We quickly realized that genuine partnerships are not built merely on mutual interests. They are built on creating shared value that benefits everyone involved.

This is why the Win-Win philosophy became an essential part of how we approached every relationship. We were never looking for organizations to simply collaborate with us. We were looking for partners who shared our vision and believed in our mission.

The Pandemic… Our First Real Test

Our journey began while the COVID-19 pandemic was reshaping the world.

At a time when many organizations were focused on survival, we chose to focus on growth. The crisis became an opportunity to rethink our approach, accelerate digital transformation, and develop innovative ways to work, communicate, and deliver our programmes.

That experience taught me that crises do not prevent success. They reveal the difference between those who wait for the right circumstances… and those who create them.

Despite every challenge, we strengthened our relationships with new partners, achieved successive milestones, and built trust within our team as well as with institutions at both the national and international levels.

Then Came the Dream… Expo Dubai

I vividly remember one of our team meetings.

We were enthusiastically discussing Expo 2020 Dubai, asking ourselves:

“Could the Emirates Scout Association have a meaningful presence at this global event? Could we even organize one of its official activities?”

At that time, the idea seemed larger than our capabilities. Yet we never treated it as an impossible dream. We treated it as a project waiting for the right opportunity. That opportunity eventually came through the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in partnership with SAP, as part of the JOTA-JOTI (Jamboree on the Air – Jamboree on the Internet) programme. It became our gateway. We did far more than simply participate.

We successfully brought together Arab Scouts during the Arab Scout Brotherhood Day in front of Al Wasl Plaza at Expo Dubai—a remarkable gathering that reflected the spirit of Arab cooperation and received extensive media coverage, making front-page headlines.

We also organized the Digital Safety Forum, bringing together Arab Scout Organizations alongside representatives of WOSM. During Expo, we launched our Strategy for the Inclusion and Empowerment of People of Determination, reinforcing our commitment to inclusive Scouting.

Success continued to build.

We organized six major events throughout Expo, established strategic partnerships with government and private-sector organizations, and significantly strengthened the Association’s institutional and media presence. That experience changed my perspective forever. An organization with a clear vision can transform a single opportunity into countless opportunities.

A New Conviction

For many years, I believed success meant delivering a successful project. Later, I discovered something far more important. Real success lies in building an institution capable of producing success repeatedly. An achievement may be created by an individual. Sustainability can only be created by institutions.

If There Is One Message from This Chapter…

Do not wait for the perfect opportunity. Be prepared when opportunity arrives. Build a team that believes in the dream before asking them to achieve it. Let vision be your starting point, teamwork your method, and partnerships the bridge that leads to greater achievements.

Always remember: Dreams are not fulfilled simply because they are beautiful.

They become reality when they are transformed into plans, plans become action, and consistent action produces lasting achievements.

As for me…

The Emirates Scout Association became far more than another professional chapter.

It became the school where I learned that leadership is responsibility, institutional excellence is a culture, partnerships are a source of strength, and every great dream begins with one small step… taken by people who truly believe in it.
