This new sports strategy goes beyond merely looking at the number of people participating in sports; it examines what individuals derive from their participation and what can be done to improve lives across all levels for the future. We will redefine success in sports by focusing on five primary objectives: physical health, mental health, individual development, social and community development, and economic development.

Through this strategy, we must work to distribute funding to focus on demographics that tend to be underrepresented in sports, including women and girls, people with disabilities, those from lower socioeconomic groups, and the elderly. We must institutionalize the promotion of sports participation starting from the age of five to build a strong generation accustomed to exercise from an early age.

Furthermore, through this strategy, we will adopt the creation of indicators to measure sports participation rates across all age groups and social classes, reinforcing the concept of a society that practices sports. We will work to ensure that Egyptian sports policy reflects the value of broader participation, whether through volunteering, spectating, or enjoying the shared sense of community and pride that comes from local and international athletic success.

This is in addition to emphasizing a commitment to the development of Olympic and Paralympic sports in a way that strengthens Egypt’s presence in international forums, reflecting our capabilities and potential in all Olympic and Paralympic events. Furthermore, we will focus on developing non-Olympic sports to broaden the grassroots base for sports participation across all disciplines and at all levels.

For the proposed strategy for Egyptian sports to achieve its goals, there must be clear cooperation between all state sectors—governmental and private—to adopt a unified national strategy for sports. Ministries must embrace a new mindset regarding sports participation at all levels, supporting it in a way that reflects the state’s vision for sports. We must also emphasize the concept of sports as a true centerpiece of life in this country; it builds individuals and communities, strengthens the economy, and supports a range of other political priorities, including public health, crime reduction, and education. However, for sports to fulfill its potential, it must be much more than just numbers. We must all fully understand the profound, positive difference it can make in people’s lives.
