Some conferences are remembered for the decisions they make… while others are remembered for the trust they inspire.

At that conference, our greatest achievement was not winning a vote. It was seeing Scout Associations from across the Arab world place their trust in us—to lead, to host, and to help shape the future.

For those outside the Scouting Movement, the term Arab Scout Conference may sound like a regular gathering. In reality, it is the highest governing authority of the Arab Scout Region and its most significant institutional event. It is where the direction of Scouting across the region is shaped for the following three years.

During the conference, the Arab Scout Committee is elected, regional events are awarded, policies and constitutional amendments are discussed, and—alongside the conference—the Arab Scout Youth Forum brings together a new generation of young leaders and decision-makers.

That is why the conference is far more than an organizational event. It is a true test of the trust Arab Scout Associations place in one another.

And there, I learned an important lesson:

Trust is the hardest election you can win.

One of the conferences that will always remain deeply etched in my memory is the 30th Arab Scout Conference, hosted virtually by the Federation of the Scouts of Lebanon.

Although the conference was held online, the competition was very real in every sense. Arab Scout Associations arrived with different ambitions. Some sought elected positions, others aspired to host regional events, while some aimed to strengthen their presence and influence across the region. As for us… we were dreaming of something more. We did not want merely to participate. We wanted to make a difference.

The Emirates Scout Association entered the conference with a clear vision, a comprehensive action plan, and a firm belief that the work done before the conference would ultimately determine its outcomes.

That is why our preparations began long before the conference itself.

We worked to build continuous communication with Arab Scout Associations, strengthen relationships, listen to the needs of others, and coordinate closely with participating delegations.

Because we believed that trust is not built during the few days of a conference… It is built over years of work, relationships, and commitment. Then came the moment when the results were announced… And the outcome exceeded even our greatest expectations.

The Emirates Scout Association was selected to host the 33rd Arab Scout Jamboree, the 31st Arab Scout Conference, and the 6th Arab Scout Youth Forum.

But the achievement did not end there.

Our candidates were also elected to the Arab Scout Committee and the Youth Advisers Committee, with both of our candidates ultimately reaching the position of Vice Chair of the Arab Scout Committee.

That was when I realized something important.

Under normal circumstances, an association might consider winning the right to host a single regional event a major achievement. Winning an elected seat could also be considered a success worth celebrating.

 

But to combine the hosting of major regional events with electoral victories at the regional level—all at the same conference—is not simply an electoral result.

It is a vote of confidence from the entire region. That experience changed my perspective.

I once believed that the best way to convince others was through the strength of a presentation.

But I discovered that the most powerful election campaign is years of hard work.

People do not vote for words… they vote based on experience.

They do not place their trust in promises… they place it in achievements they have witnessed for themselves.

My message is simple:

Build trust before you ask for support. Build relationships before you need them. And work quietly… because achievements are the language everyone understands. As for me, whenever I think back to that conference, I remember far more than the number of votes we received.

I remember the feeling of seeing years of institutional work, partnerships, relationships, and teamwork transformed—at one defining moment—into broad Arab confidence.

And for me, that was…

one of the most beautiful victories that cannot be measured in numbers.
